I am often asked why I became a funeral director.
The answer lies in a very personal experience. When Bruno, the father of my son, passed away from cancer, we were suddenly faced with a situation for which no one could have prepared us. In addition to the grief, there were countless decisions to be made, organizational matters to settle, and moments when we simply did not know how to move forward.
At that time, we were very fortunate to find a funeral director who accompanied us with great calm, humanity, and understanding. He not only supported us organizationally but, above all, gave us the feeling that we were not alone. He took away our uncertainty, showed us possibilities, and created the space we needed to say goodbye in our own unique way.
A few years later, my father died, and after the experience with Bruno, I was better able to cope, so I insisted that the funeral director allow me to dress my deceased father myself.
This experience showed me how important empathetic support can be in times of grief. Often, it is not just the organizational tasks that require support, but above all the small moments of orientation, listening, and simply being there.
That is why working as a funeral director is much more to me than just handling formalities. The focus is on the people, their stories, and the desire to enable a farewell that provides comfort and leaves room for memories.
